Nisqually Methodist Mission

Wilkes Observatory
The Wilkes Observatory in Dupont Washington was built by American explorer Charles Wilkes in 1841. The observatory was also used as a site for the first celebration of American Independence Day north of the Columbia River. The area became home to a number of settlers from the United States in the following decades.
The Wilkes Observatory is located on a bluff over Puget Sound. The trail offers stunning views of the sound. This trail starts off with a gentle descent and then winds up the bluff. The Wilkes Observatory Marker is on the trail. The marker honors Naval Lieutenant Charles Wilkes, who led the United States Exploring Expedition from 1838 to 1842. Dupont Circle fountain
Located in Dupont Circle, Washington, D.C., the Dupont Circle Fountain honors Rear Admiral Samuel Francis Dupont, an American naval officer and member of the Du Pont family. The fountain was commissioned in 1913 and is a popular landmark in the city.
Despite its historical significance, the fountain has faced problems. For two years, it was temporarily removed from its original location while workers installed a new pumping system. However, workers did not connect the pipes correctly, causing the fountain to leak. The fountain was eventually repaired and reinstalled. In addition, the statue of Dupont has been relocated to Rockford Park in Wilmington, Delaware. The monument was dedicated on May 17th, 1921.
